Jesus instructs Peter to set out into ‘the deep’ to pay out his nets for a catch. Following a completely unexpected abundant yield Peter falls to his knees and begs Jesus to depart from him “for I am a sinful man”. Now so many years down the track both the sense of entering into the depths accompanied by a sense of unworthiness has never left me. This is especially the case since coming out of the far hills of Murrindindi shire to the bustling busyness of Belmont parish. But just as Jesus dismisses Peter’s objections telling him not to be afraid and to trust, so too I feel him leading me past my protestations. Read more...

Helen Brislane - Parish Manager

Helen previously worked part-time at St Bernard’s (Baptism Preparation & Office Admin) & St Joseph’s College (Librarian). She has now retired from St Joseph’s & extended her hours at St Bernard’s to four days.


Helen is happy to assist in all areas of parish pastoral care & administration & will continue to co-ordinate Baptism Preparation. See website information under "Sacraments" for details of the Baptism programme. 

Muriel Powell - Co-ordinator Sacramental Preparation Program
Muriel works on Mondays and is responsible for Religious Education/Sacramental preparation and administration. 

Len Monk - Pastoral Worker 
Len is a member of the Parish Team and provides pastoral care and community development in the Parish on
a part-time basis. Len, his wife Anne and family have lived in St Bernard’s Parish for almost 30 years. While living in the Parish, Len gained extensive experience as a Pastoral Associate in several Parishes over the last 25 years, including Werribee, Corio-Lara and the Pastoral cluster of Bell Park, Manifold Heights, and Geelong West. He has a Bachelor of Theology and is accredited as a Pastoral Associate by Melbourne Archdiocese.
